My Sweetheart...

A very, very quick post from me today 

 to share with you this latest make...

To create the background I used

Tim's distress crayons, combined with grit paste through stencils and my new favourite... opaque crackle paste... I just love this stuff!

I layered lots of old text papers, torn denim substrates and lots of stitching using my trusty sewing machine! 

The photo is from Idea-ology photo booth and I added one of my old, vintage rusty keys. 

The "My Sweetheart" is also from the new Idea-ology Clippings...

(i love these too!)

Oxide tags....

Hope you are all good!

Its been another super busy week here.....with not a lot of free time to get inky!

However, I did manage to squeeze in a quick playtime using the Distress oxides....

I love, love, love the effects they give....the best way to describe them is its a bit like adding milk to your ink, they are a real game changer allowing you to create some cool backgrounds!

I had a play on two tags

For this tag I used fossilised Amber, faded jeans, cracked pistachio, 

spiced marmalade and walnut stain

I built up the layers of oxides, I love that they don't mud, 

you can still see the colour onto of each layer.

I then added lots of Idea-ology cogs....these were painted using texture paste 

then coloured using the oxides

The man doll is from the Idea-ology paper dolls....his wings are from the botanical ephemera pack

For the next tag used the oxides to create a background and stamped using a text background. 

I then added a layer of ranger crackle paste and left it to dry.

Next I added some texture using one of Tim's stencils with some grit paste,

when it had dried I used distress crayons and the oxides to colour the paste.

(note: the paste will pick up some of the oxide colour of the background too as it is distress!)

I then painted the girls using distress paint and crayons

I used cracked pistachio, walnut stain and fossilised amber in the oxides

The stars were punched out and coloured the same way

To finish I added some words from the Idea-ology clippings and framed them in a vintage optical slide from my own stash.

These tags were fun to create and were great to experiment with the oxides....

Heart...

Hope you you are all good!

Spring is finally here....thank goodness!

winter hung around...way too long!

It seems like ages since I used a tag in my work...

I had forgotten how much I love working on them,

 its a great way to experiment with different mediums,

 products and techniques....it's how I first got bitten by the ink bug!

So I started by creating lots of layers using gesso and distress paints

I lost count how many layers.......but it was many!

When I was happy with background I added a layer of the new Ranger Opaque crackle paste using a palette knife...

This product is so VERY cool! I think I will be using pots of it!

(I got mine from Art from the heart here) 

When the paste had dried I added more layers using distress crayons, paints, stencils and stamps

 (Tim Holtz -Birch and pine set and Correspondence)

The heart is a Sizzix thinlit, which also got the grunge treatment using the paste...

I added the words from Idea-ology "Clippings" and framed them with some rusty wire  

To finish I added lots of stitching and some painty splats!

It was great to experiment with a new product, it helps revive the old mojo when its feeling a bit flat!

Collection No 5

I've not had the best start to February.....

We've had an un-welcome visitor in our home AKA The Lurgy!

Its been very quiet as I have Laryngitis, Yuk, (although my family are enjoying the peace!)

Hoping its finally on its way back to where it came from!

 ( btw a big thank you for all the lovely messages on my Facebook/insta pages)

Today I want to share a Panel frame from Idea-ology that Ive been working on....

As you all know I love to create grunge, so this was right up my street!

 I used lots of gesso, distress paints and distress crayons to get that grunge look!

I then embellished it with lots of Idea-ology and some of my own vintage finds

The word 'collection' is from the New Idea-ology quote chips, I added some stitching to mine

The base is one from the base boards (also Idea-ology) I grunged this up using paints distress crazingand distress crayons, then I added a few remnant rub-ons 

I coloured the salvaged doll with alcohol inks in espresso and pebble, gave her some wings from the ephemera pack and crowned with that cool crown.  She is framed in an Idea-ology baroque frame

Ranger Designer Challenge at Creativation

A very special post to share with you today...

As you may know last weekend saw the Creativation (formally CHA craft trade show) took place over the pond in Arizona, wow it looked AMAZING 

(I so want to go even more now!!)

Last November, Tim  and Ranger invited me to take part in the Ranger Designer challenge that takes place in the Ranger booth, this year the theme was "The Evolution of Distress"

I was assigned with one of my favourite products....Distress Crayons!

It was such an honour to be asked.... it was a pinch me moment!

I'm so thankful to share the experience with some amazing designers and friends

(Huge thanks to Tim, Emma, Paula, Kath, Zoe, Vicky, Anita, Kassa,

 Dyan, Dina, Shari,  and the fabulous other designers)

I was so exciting seeing everyones take on the distress line.

We were sent one of the new Stampers Anonymous large tag Thickboards

as our base.  I stencilled using Tims stencils and Rangers texture paste and gesso. 

I then got busy with lots of the Tim holtz distress crayons

I added lots of layers to an Idea-ology clipboard and added a pocket watch (Idea-ology) filled with a heart and key 

The numbers are Remnant rub-ons and the tape is also Idea-ology.

Those that follow my blog regular will know that I love to add my own vintage finds, so I added these cool scissors, keys, washers and an old ruler.... 

And here it is next to Tims in the Ranger booth!

(and yes I did let out a squeal when I saw it!)

Me and you...

It's getting to that really busy time of the year....

eekkk, so many things to sort, buy, organise

I always find December a bit of a challenge!

I'm not a big fan of christmas, don't get me wrong i love the day,

 but really don't like the build up to it....

I'm actually thinking I may hibernate for the whole of December!!

Anyway before I squirrel away.......I wanted to share this quick make with you

I created it with a left over tag

The tag was covered in old text paper, dried then I applied a coat of gesso through Tim holtz stencils, along with adding some off cuts of vintage lace....

When it had all dried I applied distress paint and distress crayons to get a nice wash of colour...

I then added some splashes of black soot.

The photo is from Photo booth (Idea-ology) framed with a wooden frame from my stash, I also added some paper flowers that also I coloured with distress crayons.

 To finish,  I layered the tag onto some parcel paper, then backed it onto a cabinet card (Idea-ology)

I then added some stitching and the words from chit chat (Idea-ology)

Simplicity...

Yikes...I'm playing catch up this week.....

 seriously there's just never enough hours in the day!

Anyway, I wanted to share this make with you, I actually made it a few weeks ago but I wasn't happy with how it originally looked ( It nearly ended up in the bin on several occasions!)

Ive been persevering and tweaking it every now and then, when time allowed!

I created the background using lots of distress paints and a brayer, I then added more layers stamping in Archival ink with the Tim Holtz mixed media 2 stamp set 

I got splattering with the distress splatter brush, its gives a great effect!

I always love to add stitches to my work, so Ive added lots to this piece.... I also added texture paste through Tim Holtz stencils when dry I coloured the paste with distress crayons 

The butterfly is from Tim's  Watercolour stamp set, again coloured using distress crayons.

I added Remnant rub-ons and framed the photo using the Idea-ology frame painted with distress paints.

(The quote is from the Perspective stamp set)

I'm so glad I stuck with it, sometimes it is worth all the hair pulling and keeping it out of the bin!

 I'm finally happy with how it turned out 

(mmm.... i think, lol!)

Fly girl...

I hope you've had a great week!

The weather has been pretty bonkers here in the UK for April!

Yesterday I drove in glorious sunshine, followed by hail, snow, sleet then thunder and rain....

whoever has borrowed the sunshine please bring it back!

I thought I would share a little vintage make Ive recently made, using one of the vignette panels and some of the sticky back textile surfaces....( I just love this linen effect)

I stuck the linen to the panel then using a couple of Tim's stencils I applied randomly Ranger texture paste.  When the paste was dry I rubbed over the top using distress crayons

I cut out the girl  from the found relatives pack and stuck her to one of my old vintage envelope, I added some remnant rub-ons and lots of stitching 

I also added some idea-ology and some of my own vintage finds....

The ribbon was coloured using hickory smoke distress spray ( my new favourite colour!) 

The butterfly is from one of tims ephemera packs and the word fly is from the 

chit chat book ( Idea-ology)

To finish I hung it from the lovely vintage hanger ( also Idea-ology)

A quickie blog post to share this make with you...

I've been really enjoying experimenting with backgrounds using a mixture of Distress crayons, inks and paints

I'm really liking the new flip top lids for distress paints, they give you more control over the amount of paint to use...... a little bit really does go  such a long way!

I'm also loving the new Distress Splatter brush, it gives some really cool splatters to backgrounds.....plus its great fun to use (my phone has a whole new look!)

 

I really wanted to use the "Dapper"Tim Holtz/Stampers anonymous stamp set

so I paired it up with one of my favourite stamps..... Wendy Vecchi/ Stampers Anonymous phrenology head stamp as they compliment each other perfectly!

Lots of Idea-ology Rub-ons, distress crayon colouring and lots of stitching

The hat, shirt and tie were coloured using distress markers a

the quote is from the Random quotes stamp set  

The tag is mounted onto a black cabinet card from Idea-ology and is stuck down using distress matt medium

Easters hols are nearly over...

Its back to pay the bills job next week for me so this weekend I crammed in some precious

 inky time....

Here's what I did......

 

I used distress paints with a brayer to create the background, lots of layers!

I then used my splatter brush  to add random splats all over. 

I then stamped the image using Rangers Archival ink and the Tim Holtz/ Stampers anonymous Evolution stamp set ( I just LOVE this set!)

The layers of paint from the brayer gives the image a really cool slightly textured look

I also stamped in red archival ink, using the Mixed media #2 set

Next I added Rangers texture paste through Tim's Herringbone stencil and left it to dry

While it was drying I stamped the quote using stamp set "Perspective"

Once the texture paste was dry I used distress crayons over the top, I really like the look they give on top of the texture paste.

I then painted up the Idea-ology cogs with distress paints and glued them in place using distress matte medium.

This was one of those makes that I could of kept adding to..... but in the end I had to tell myself to stop and walk away!

Distress Crayon Resist Tutorial

 Hello friends

Hope you are all good...

Today I'm really excited to share with you my latest project, along with a step by step tutorial using the Tim Holtz Distress Crayons to create a Distress crayon resist technique....

This post is photo heavy

So grab yourself a cuppa and pull up a chair

You will need:

Ranger glossy card stock ( I've used their ATC cards)

Wendy Vecchi Archival ink (Watering can)

Stamp and grid block

Ranger heat it tool/heat mat

Blending tool

Tim Holtz distress crayons

Tim Holtz distress markers

Wet wipes

PLEASE NOTE
It is important to use Glossy card stock as this gives the best results for this technique!

Step 1:Take your stamp of choice and mount it onto your grid block.

Using a distress crayon, colour over the image you wish to use quite generously

Step 2:

Instead of stamping down onto the card like you might normally do, take your glossy card to the stamp (glossy side down, so the glossy part makes contact with your stamp) This makes it easier to apply enough pressure to the card stock so that you get a better imprint of the image.

Step 3:

Using your fingers carefully burnish the back of the card.

Step 4:

Peel off the card and turn over so you have your image on the glossy card.

(you may have an image that is uneven  and bobbly due to how the distress crayons have stamped.....don't be tempted to touch it as it may smudge at this point and ruin all your hard work.....)

Step 5:

Take your Ranger heat it  tool and dry off the distress crayons

Step 6: The fun part!

Take some Wendy Vecchi Archival ink (I've used Watering can) and a blending tool.

Blend over the whole image, until your card is completely covered in Archival ink.

Step 7:

Again using your Ranger Heat it tool dry off the ink

Step 7:

This is the really cool part! Take a wet wipe and swipe it over the image, this will remove the distress crayon and leave you with a bleached out image

If you have removed too much of the archival you can go back in around the edges with your blending tool.

Step 8:

If you want to add some colour to your image then take a distress marker and apply to your image

Step 9:

to blend the colours together go back in with your wet wipe

(for this you have to work quite quick)

Step10:

Stand back and admire your work!!
(Don't forget to clean your stamp with a wet wipe...the crayon is easy to wipe off)

I started to experiment and

I was curious to see if this technique would work with Distress ink

I repeated all the steps

but because the ink is water reactive it still worked

but you get a completely different look.....

you are left with a  really bleached out image and little colour...

but this still could be added in the same way as before by using the distress markers

(although I've not had chance to try that yet!)

So I hope this tutorial has inspired you to have a go......

its such a cool technique which gives you a different look each time!

The Distress Crayons are definitely my new favourite medium to work with
