Heart card

A very quick post from me tonight to share a little bit of colour...

Those that know me well will now that 

I don't tend to use colour much...

but I recently purchased some of Dina Walkers scribble sticks and I love them!

I used a scrap piece of cardboard from some packaging

used a dry brush to brush on some of dina's gesso randomly.

Next I added some dots of colour using the scribble sticks, then I stitched into the card 

I then die cut some chevrons using the Tim Holtz strip thinlits  and a heart by sizzix 

To finish I added some rub ons, layered the cardboard onto black and white card, then used an old pocket watch ring to circle the heart.

This was a fun little project to create, loved using the scribble sticks,

Oxide tags....

Hello friends

Hope you are all good!

Its been another super busy week here.....with not a lot of free time to get inky!

However, I did manage to squeeze in a quick playtime using the Distress oxides....

I love, love, love the effects they give....the best way to describe them is its a bit like adding milk to your ink, they are a real game changer allowing you to create some cool backgrounds!

I had a play on two tags

For this tag I used fossilised Amber, faded jeans, cracked pistachio, 

spiced marmalade and walnut stain

I built up the layers of oxides, I love that they don't mud, 

you can still see the colour onto of each layer.

I then added lots of Idea-ology cogs....these were painted using texture paste 

then coloured using the oxides

The man doll is from the Idea-ology paper dolls....his wings are from the botanical ephemera pack

For the next tag used the oxides to create a background and stamped using a text background. 

I then added a layer of ranger crackle paste and left it to dry.

Next I added some texture using one of Tim's stencils with some grit paste,

when it had dried I used distress crayons and the oxides to colour the paste.

(note: the paste will pick up some of the oxide colour of the background too as it is distress!)

I then painted the girls using distress paint and crayons

I used cracked pistachio, walnut stain and fossilised amber in the oxides

The stars were punched out and coloured the same way

To finish I added some words from the Idea-ology clippings and framed them in a vintage optical slide from my own stash.

These tags were fun to create and were great to experiment with the oxides....

Dreams...

Wow it's  been such a busy couple of weeks here,

 I'm only just catching up with blogging, adding more chaos to my 

desk and finishing off some makes that have been waiting patiently for me to finish......

(I can't believe we are nearly half way through March!)

Today I wanted to share this vintage make...

I started of with a piece of 8x8 paper from paper stash from Dapper

I created several layers using gesso, collage medium and distress paints, I stamped in coffee archival ink,  using the ledger stamp set (Tim Holtz)

The image is from the Idea-ology Paper dolls.....

she was painted using distress paint and distress crayons.

The image is attached with 3D foam pads (sadly the picture doesn't pick it up too well)

The flowers/butterflies are from the Idea-ology ephemera packs....some really great vintage images!

The letters are also Idea-ology and were distressed using alcohol ink and distress paints

To finish I framed it using a Panel frame which I gave the distressed treatment added a mini crown to the image (how cute are they?! from Idea-ology) 

I also added an old vintage key from my own collection!.

I love vintage and thoroughly enjoyed getting stuck into creating this one!

Heart...

Hello friends!

Hope you you are all good!

Spring is finally here....thank goodness!

winter hung around...way too long!

It seems like ages since I used a tag in my work...

I had forgotten how much I love working on them,

 its a great way to experiment with different mediums,

 products and techniques....it's how I first got bitten by the ink bug!

So I started by creating lots of layers using gesso and distress paints

I lost count how many layers.......but it was many!

When I was happy with background I added a layer of the new Ranger Opaque crackle paste using a palette knife...

This product is so VERY cool! I think I will be using pots of it!

(I got mine from Art from the heart here) 

When the paste had dried I added more layers using distress crayons, paints, stencils and stamps

 (Tim Holtz -Birch and pine set and Correspondence)

The heart is a Sizzix thinlit, which also got the grunge treatment using the paste...

I added the words from Idea-ology "Clippings" and framed them with some rusty wire  

To finish I added lots of stitching and some painty splats!

It was great to experiment with a new product, it helps revive the old mojo when its feeling a bit flat!

A splash of colour.....

Hope you are good!

Have you had a good week? Its been a cold one here brrrr....

There's been lots going on in the craft world, lots of new releases, new inspiration and lots of new products that we all NEED!

I am so looking forward to what the Creativation show brings us this coming week....its such an exciting time!

So just a quick post tonight, 

 to share a quick make using lots of colour.....yes thats me using colour!

(it's good to come out of your comfort zone and experiment....and as  its January I needed a splash of colour to lift these dark winter days!)

The image is from my own vintage collection that I photo-copied and

did an image transfer using gesso

I highlighted the girls using distress paint (mustard seed)

I then added lots of splashes of colour using lots of distress paints. 

Next I stamped using Black  Archival ink and Tim Holtz Mixed Media 2 stamp set 

I created a patchwork of stitching from some off cuts and added some Remnant rub-ons 

To finish I added some words from Big chat ( idea-ology) and backed it onto black card...

Simplicity...

 Hello friends

Hope you are all good!

Yikes...I'm playing catch up this week.....

 seriously there's just never enough hours in the day!

Anyway, I wanted to share this make with you, I actually made it a few weeks ago but I wasn't happy with how it originally looked ( It nearly ended up in the bin on several occasions!)

Ive been persevering and tweaking it every now and then, when time allowed!

I created the background using lots of distress paints and a brayer, I then added more layers stamping in Archival ink with the Tim Holtz mixed media 2 stamp set 

I got splattering with the distress splatter brush, its gives a great effect!

I always love to add stitches to my work, so Ive added lots to this piece.... I also added texture paste through Tim Holtz stencils when dry I coloured the paste with distress crayons 

The butterfly is from Tim's  Watercolour stamp set, again coloured using distress crayons.

I added Remnant rub-ons and framed the photo using the Idea-ology frame painted with distress paints.

I'm so glad I stuck with it, sometimes it is worth all the hair pulling and keeping it out of the bin!

 I'm finally happy with how it turned out 

(mmm.... i think, lol!)

Fly girl...

Hello friends

I hope you've had a great week!

The weather has been pretty bonkers here in the UK for April!

Yesterday I drove in glorious sunshine, followed by hail, snow, sleet then thunder and rain....

whoever has borrowed the sunshine please bring it back!

I thought I would share a little vintage make Ive recently made, using one of the vignette panels and some of the sticky back textile surfaces....( I just love this linen effect)

I stuck the linen to the panel then using a couple of Tim's stencils I applied randomly Ranger texture paste.  When the paste was dry I rubbed over the top using distress crayons

I cut out the girl  from the found relatives pack and stuck her to one of my old vintage envelope, I added some remnant rub-ons and lots of stitching 

I also added some idea-ology and some of my own vintage finds....

The ribbon was coloured using hickory smoke distress spray ( my new favourite colour!) 

The butterfly is from one of tims ephemera packs and the word fly is from the 

chit chat book ( Idea-ology)

To finish I hung it from the lovely vintage hanger ( also Idea-ology)

Vintage....

Hello friends

I hope you are all good!

Today I wanted to share a vintage inspired make....

I'm always being asked, where I find my vintage stash....

Let me tell you, its not easy, I spend literally hours and hours scouring different places, 

flea markets,  charity shops, car boots, the list goes on......

sometimes I'm really lucky but more often or not I've had a wasted journey.

On several occasions I've almost had a full blown bun fight over junk.....

I have two general rules.....

If you pick it up....don't put it down!

If you like it buy it....

(Don't think I will come back to it later, there's nothing worse than watching someone else walk away with something you had your eye on!)

 I really love the chase of finding stuff, I guess its my drug....

(oh and gin, gotta love a cheeky G&T to celebrate your finds)

So here's what I did with some of my latest finds.......

I stamped in coffee archival, onto kraft card using Tim's Damask stamp to create a background 

I then layered using paper from the Dapper paper stash.... 

(The French bank statement in the background is an original )

I then added a cabinet card and an image from the idea-ology photo booth

and framed her using a frame....

I then added some more Idea-ology and some of my own vintage finds....

(I have to say I just love that mini envelope!)

I love working with vintage, I'm always intrigued as to who, what, where and when

things were used and the stories behind it,

if only they could talk...

Tissue wrap/distress crayon tutorial

I hope you are having a great week!

I thought I would share some projects Ive been working on....

Ive put together a couple of you-tube clips of how I created the backgrounds....you can find them at the end of my post.

(...that's been a whole learning curb in its self....)

I'm certainly not a techie when it comes to creating you-tube clips...

I don't own any fancy cameras, just me and my trusty iPhone....so the quality isn't the best, but hopefully you will get the idea ....

 Im still toying with the idea whether to invest in a "proper camera"I think Ive still got some learning to do yet!

(p.s. there's also music playing in the background so be warned.....I don't want to make you jump!

I was really inspired to try the Tim Holtz (Idea-ology) Plain tissue wrap after seeing one of my favourite artists, Paula Cheney work her magic here and here

( aren't they fab?? I'm sure Paula has magic hands...I  do really admire her work)

So, I was curious to see how to create some texture and how it would look with distress crayons....

here's  the results of some of my makes......

I finished this tag by adding texture paste over the top  and colouring the paste with distress crayons when it had dried...

This clip will show you how to create just the plain textured background

  You will need:

Card/tag

Tim Holtz paper wrap (plain)

Distress collage medium(matte)

distress brush

heat tool/matt

distress crayons

This tag I did by stamping the tissue wrap to start....if you watch this video I will show you how....

(p.s. please don't judge my dirty stamp block/pad!)

I hope you found the clips useful....like I say the quality isn't the best and I'm  very much still learning! (slowly!!)

Ive really enjoyed creating texture with the tissue wrap.....the distress crayons smooth over it like a dream!

Melt Art Mania!

I'm sooo excited to share my Melt Art Mania creation with you....
not only that...... I will also be sharing a tutorial on how you to can create your own Melt Art.....


A few weeks ago was asked to participate in
 Rangers Melt Art Mania....I just couldn't wait to get started!
I wanted to use my Melt Art melting pot as it has
so many creative possibilities from Creating 3-D embellishments, jewellery, paper crafting in fact the list just goes on!

I wanted to create something that could have a duel purpose......
 maybe worn as an item of jewellery but could also be adapted to use as an embellishment for my art work
So for this project as well as using my Melt Art Pot,  Melt Art Texture treads I would also use one of my other favourite mediums....
Rangers Metal foil sheets.....are perfect for what I had in mind.....

These brooches are so cool and simple to make..

Here is a tutorial on how you can 

create your own Melt Art embellishments

Supplies:

Ranger Melt Art Melting pot/spatula
Ranger non-stick craft sheet
Ranger Melt Art Texture Treads
Ranger Melt Art Ultra thick embossing Enamel
Ranger metal foil sheets


Tim Holtz scissors
Ranger Vintaj Patinas
Memory frame
Memory Foil tape
Alcohol ink-pitch black
Blending tool/felt
Hot glue gun
embossing tool/paper stump
brooch pin
Cookie cutter
steel wool

Set your melt pot to the UTEE setting and add your UTEE

(I used clear and Pearl)

Choose your texture tread and carefully pour the UTEE over the top

next take a cookie cutter and carefully place into the UTEE and leave for a few minutes to set 

(use your spatula to test if the UTEE has set.......DO NOT use you fingers)

When the UTEE is cool, carefully peel the texture tread away and snap the heart out of the UTEE

(Place any left over UTEE back into your melt pot to re-use) 

Next take a sheet of Rangers  Metal foil sheet

cut a heart  out of the foil sheet slightly bigger than your UTEE heart 

Remove the backing of the foil sheet. 

Next place your UTEE heart  face-down onto the foil heart......so that the pattern is stuck to the foil 

carefully make some snips around the heart. 

Turn over the heart and using a paper stump or an embossing tool rub over and around the heart to expose the the pattern of the texture tread

Now take the snipped foil and stick down to the edges of the heart 

cut another heart in the foil and place onto the back of the heart 

this will hide the seams of the foil 

Using steel wool, gently rub over the whole pattern of the heart

Take a blending tool with felt and apply some pitch black alcohol ink 

Rub the blending tool all over the heart (front and back) 

Take a small piece of steel wool and gently rub over the areas you want to to expose

of the pattern 

I added a smaller heart to my brooch ( made in exactly the same way )

and stuck it to the heart using a hot glue gun 

To finish I added a pin to the reverse of my brooch

Your brooch is finished!

I really hope you enjoyed the tutorial 

Why not experiment and add some Idea-ology 

Try pouring the UTEE into a memory frame, when it has completely cooled add a square of metal foil sheet to the embossed UTEE frame and follow the steps as before.. 

You could also try adding colour to the metal, I used Rangers Vintaj Patinas 

apply the Patinas using your fingers over the raised areas, then gently rub with the steel wire for a more distressed look.

I love experimenting with the texture treads

they are so much fun to work with!
