Oxide tags....

Hope you are all good!

Its been another super busy week here.....with not a lot of free time to get inky!

However, I did manage to squeeze in a quick playtime using the Distress oxides....

I love, love, love the effects they give....the best way to describe them is its a bit like adding milk to your ink, they are a real game changer allowing you to create some cool backgrounds!

I had a play on two tags

For this tag I used fossilised Amber, faded jeans, cracked pistachio, 

spiced marmalade and walnut stain

I built up the layers of oxides, I love that they don't mud, 

you can still see the colour onto of each layer.

I then added lots of Idea-ology cogs....these were painted using texture paste 

then coloured using the oxides

The man doll is from the Idea-ology paper dolls....his wings are from the botanical ephemera pack

For the next tag used the oxides to create a background and stamped using a text background. 

I then added a layer of ranger crackle paste and left it to dry.

Next I added some texture using one of Tim's stencils with some grit paste,

when it had dried I used distress crayons and the oxides to colour the paste.

(note: the paste will pick up some of the oxide colour of the background too as it is distress!)

I then painted the girls using distress paint and crayons

I used cracked pistachio, walnut stain and fossilised amber in the oxides

The stars were punched out and coloured the same way

To finish I added some words from the Idea-ology clippings and framed them in a vintage optical slide from my own stash.

These tags were fun to create and were great to experiment with the oxides....

Hello 2017

Hello friends!

First of all let me start by wishing you all

a very happy, healthy and creative new year!

Secondly, let me apologise for being missing in action....

I would like to tell you that I spent the christmas period lying on a hot beach, sipping cocktails but the reality is that Ive been really busy working on some top secret projects....shhhh more on them in a couple of weeks!

So today I just wanted to share a quick make that I put together over the weekend....

(I am surprised it even got made as my desk is officially a disaster area! Each time I get motivated to clear it I get distracted and I add to the mountain of mess....butI work better in mess so its not too bad!)

If you are a regular follower of my blog you will know that I am a collector of old photographs and ephemera and I love to use them in my makes...

So I selected this lost soul, she kind of stuck out and fitted perfectly in this Idea-ology frame

I used lots of layers of gesso, texture paste, stencils,distress paints, distress crayons and substrates 

The old rusty keys are from my stash. I added rusty wire and a mini tag from Tim Holtz Tiny tabs and tag die, I also added Remnant rub-ons. 

The outside was framed with stitching and the Ideology frame was given the shabby/ grunge treatment!

Hello friends

Hope you are all good!

A quickie post from me today, to share my latest make

Not one to embrace colour,

surprise surprise....Ive gone for a very grungy look

(I just couldn't help myself!)

The base is made from wood (from hobbycraft)

which was painted with gesso,

I then I added lots of layers of distress paints to it

(walnut stain, black soot)

I used an then used a Tim Holtz Idea-ology cabinet card,

applied a layer of gesso, texture paste and grit paste

through Tim Holtz Stencils 

(THS070, THS006 and THS005)

When it had dried I used distress crayons and more paints to enhance the stencil marks

The Baroque frame (Idea-ology) was painted with grit paste, when dry,

 I painted it in black soot distress paint.  To highlight areas I used a gold sharpie pen.

I then added the photograph ( from found relatives-occasions set)and stitched the outside of the

cabinet card.

To add some finishing touches I added some lace and stars (stars are from finnabair) I added some arrows and bolts from Idea-ology and mounted it all onto the wooden base

A Patchwork of Wildflowers

Hello friends......

Hope you've all had a great week!

its been so nice to see a little sunshine but

I woke up this morning to a blanket of snow!!

Snow in April?! That's crazy!

Anyway I thought I would warm you all up with a patchwork of wildflowers

created with offcuts, leftovers and my very trusty sewing machine!

The backgrounds were created using lots of distress paints and that gorgeous wildflowers stamp set

In the backgrounds I've used the mixed media 2 stamp set along with the halftone and rings set 

I stamped the images using Ranger black archival ink and I added some rub-ons in random places 

(The quote is from the Perspective stamp set) 

Using colour is always a little alien to me as I'm a creature of habit and always reach out for the more subtle vintage tones.....but I have to admit  I've really enjoyed stepping out of my comfort zone 

( plus its used up my off cuts/leftovers!)

Live your dream...

Hope you are good and that you've had a great week!

Easters hols are nearly over...

Its back to pay the bills job next week for me so this weekend I crammed in some precious

 inky time....

Here's what I did......

 

I used distress paints with a brayer to create the background, lots of layers!

I then used my splatter brush  to add random splats all over. 

I then stamped the image using Rangers Archival ink and the Tim Holtz/ Stampers anonymous Evolution stamp set ( I just LOVE this set!)

The layers of paint from the brayer gives the image a really cool slightly textured look

I also stamped in red archival ink, using the Mixed media #2 set

Next I added Rangers texture paste through Tim's Herringbone stencil and left it to dry

While it was drying I stamped the quote using stamp set "Perspective"

Once the texture paste was dry I used distress crayons over the top, I really like the look they give on top of the texture paste.

I then painted up the Idea-ology cogs with distress paints and glued them in place using distress matte medium.

This was one of those makes that I could of kept adding to..... but in the end I had to tell myself to stop and walk away!

Inspiration Tag

Wow...... this month has just flown by......

Whoohoo its nearly March.....

soooo looking forward to the Spring!

 

A quickie post from me today to share this tag hanging

Over at the lovely Inspiration Emporium store,

 their monthly theme is "Show it with words"

 Here's what I created.......

I took some old cardboard packaging and using a palette knife, I spread lots of embossing paste

very randomly, then when dry I gave it a good splatter with distress paints.

I inked up the tag with distress inks, then used the distress spritzer with a layering stencil.

I added some stitching and repeated the splattering of paint over the tag.

 

I stamped the feather with Archival ink and replaced some of the text using some words from the Idea-ology Chit chat book, which a I sewed into place using my sewing machine

 ( and yes... a steady hand was needed!!)

 

Swoon....That beautiful feather stamp,

has to be one of my favourite stamps at the moment,

 I just love it!

Inspired by CC102

Hello friends!

Hope you are all good!

CC102 is finally here!!

Wow, I was so inspired by the first day of Creative chemistry 102

that as soon as class had finished,

 I had to get inky and painty using some of the brilliant techniques 

taught by our fabulous teacher..... Tim Holtz

Not only that but today I am soooo super excited,

 as I am a guest artist featured over on CC102..

wow...what an honour!
